First chronological data from moraines have been published

Chronological data from moraines in Sankt Wilhelmer Tal have been published in the Journal of Quaternary Science. The newly acquired data indicate two periods of glacial re-advances and/or standstills during the deglaciation of the valley (at the latest at 17000-16000 and at 14 000 years before present). The reconstructed chronology is very similar to chronological data from other low mountainous areas (Mittelgebirge) in Central Europe. Further chronological data is needed to evaluate whether the proposed chronology is also valid for other areas in the southern Black Forest. In addition, future studies should concentrate on determining the age of the last glaciation maximum in the Black Forest, as the suspected last glaciation maximum downvalley from Sankt Wilhelmer Tal has apparently not been preserved.
